Creative Writing Course for High School Students

Welcome to the Creative Writing Course for High School Students at UK Writers College.

In creative writing you are trying to tell a story and create a mood. You want the reader to be swept away into another world that you create for them. You want to ignite their emotions. This course will teach you how to do that.

This course is for anyone who wants to spruce up their creative writing essays at school. It is also for aspirant writers who dream of getting published one day.

The course offers expert, one-on-one training, line by line, from a professional, award-winning writer, Helen Brain.

“It was a very good experience; I learnt a lot and strengthened my weaknesses. I also learnt how to edit a scene completely. My tutor Helen was very good; she was blunt and explained my mistakes to me. She motivated me and was patient with me. I enjoyed the feedback and the motivation. The course met all of my objectives; I got a lot better at being able to describe things. It was hard work but in the end it was worth it.”

“My objective was to put together a solid, professional groundwork for creative writing and to tack a certificate onto my résumé; the course certainly excelled at both. The course gives a very solid foundation for storytelling. The course certainly succeeds at building and applying the basics of creative writing and covering all of the essentials. Helen's great fun to work with and relates to a teenager's worldview surprisingly well. She was always available and I could expect a response to any question within a day or so. Feedback was concise and had the sort of direct quality I wanted; I would always know exactly what to improve on from the feedback.”

Lane Tao, Creative Writing Course for High School Students

This combination was both engaging and fun. Working on the final scene was particularly rewarding, in terms of receiving good developmental input to ensure that the final draft is of good quality. Working with Helen was brilliant. She is great at giving encouragement and a good critique, so that good opportunity is provided for development. It was a fun, rewarding and challenging experience.” James Mortley, Basics of Creative Writing Course
